After graduating from college with a degree in
zoology I decided I needed a break so I jumped on my motorcycle
and ended up in South America! Due to poor planning I ran out
of money in Central America. To survive I started catching and
exporting wild animals to zoos and dealers throughout the world.
I lived in nine different countries in Central and South America
for five years exporting animals. I lived in some incredible places
one of which was a river boat on the Amazon catching fish and
reptiles. I had five pet Macaws which lived on the rail of the
river boat! My aunt still has one of the Macaws, "Corby"!
We all slept on hammocks on the deck. I did that for six months.
Another home was the Volkswagon bus I purchased in Panama. I spent
two years living in the bus in South America. I also lived in
a one room brick house in Ecuador with a pet Ocelot that ran loose
in the house. My neighbors were all Incan Indians who had guinea
pigs running loose in there homes as they are staples of their
diet.
Upon returning to the United States I started an Import-Export
business, Western Zoological Supply which supplied animals to
zoos and private facilities throughout the world. Due to the large
inventory of wild animals we kept, our company was frequently
contacted by studios and other animal companies to provide animals
for film. That's when I met Gina.
Gina and I started Brockett's Film Fauna in 1978 and dedicated
ourselves to rescuing animals and working in the film business.
We started out with 7 alligators and now have over 30 most of
which are rescues. We certainly have the largest reptile collection
in the business, but also have small wild cats, Gina's love, and
birds, barnyard animals, and odd animals like a capybara which
we rescued from the Agoura Animal Shelter. In addition to the
exotic animals we also provide dogs and cats and lots of other
domestic animals for film. For example we provide all the dogs
and cats for PETCO.
We have a beautiful five acre ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains
where we live and take care of all our wonderful animals.
With over 30 years of experience working with animals we are certainly
one of the most qualified companies in the business. We have all
of the permits, insurance and knowledge to get your project done
and you will call us back!
We are members of a Non- profit organization
called International Animal Welfare Alliance, IAWA which is an
organization dedicated to preserving the rights of responsible,
LEGAL, PERMITTED animal owners. We are dedicated to the continued
professional use of animals in the entertainment industry, and
hope you share our beliefs. Please check out our web site @
